This past weekend marked the one year anniversary of Peter Falk's death. Columbo fans on Twitter marked the occasion with an online tribute "Remembering Peter Falk" where they tweeted about their favorite Falk moments in film and tv as well tweeting photos and videos. You can view it all at hashtag #RememberingPeterFalk
I grew up watching Peter Falk and he was one of the few actors that influenced my early life. His role as Columbo had the greatest impact on me. Columbo was smart, polite, though stern when he needed to be, understanding, hard working, and dedicated. In short, he was the best role model a young person could have. And I loved the fact that he was rumpled and a tad disorganized at times, because truthfully, so was I. Despite my young age, I could identify with him in a lot of ways.
It wasn't just Columbo that I remember Falk for. There were a slew of movies and tv shows I saw him in over the years that I loved. Murder By Death, my all time favorite movie, was one. The In-Laws, The Great Race, The Brinks Job, the Twilight Zone episode The Mirror, The Cheap Detective, The Princess Bride, and It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World were just a few of the others.
Peter Falk may have left this world, but he left it, and me, with many wonderful, happy memories that I'll cherish forever.
